3.1 Introduction This chapter discusses the methodology that was used in population sampling, techniques that were used to gather, process, and analyse data. In addition this chapter discusses the procedure that was used to carry out the research and for handling the findings. 3.2 Research design This study adopted a descriptive and correlational research design which yielded both qualitative and quantitative data in order to interpret factors influencing performance of start-up businesses in Northampton United Kingdom. According to Cooper and Schindler (2003), a descriptive study is concerned with finding out what, where and how of a phenomenon. This method is concerned with the intense investigation of problem solving situations in which problems are relevant to the research problem. This design was used to understand underlying factors of each variable in being researched. A correlational research design aims at establishing relationships among variables. This design was adopted because the researcher seeks to explain the factors influencing the performance of start-up businesses in Northampton United Kingdom. The correlation design sought to determine the relationship between performance of a start-up business and the factors influencing them. 3.3 Target Population The study Population included all start-up businesses in Northampton United Kingdom.
